Project #1
Assessments of Impacts, Vulnerabilities and Adaptation Strategies of Coastal Communities to Address Climate Change-Induced Sea Level Rise in Manila Bay, Philippines – Rosa T Perez, Lourdes V Tibig & Canesio D Predo.
Objectives:
Overall objective is to identify and assess the costs and benefits of alternative adaptation strategies/options for climate change-induced sea level rise by communities and households along the Manila Bay.
Specific objectives
- Assess the vulnerability and coping mechanisms of communities and households to increasing sea level in the Manila Bay;
- identify adaptation strategies/options to deal with climate change-induced sea-level rise;
- quantify the cost and benefits of identified adaptation strategies/options; and
- recommend efficient adaptation strategies and options.
Project #2
Economic Adaptation of Agriculture to the Impacts of Sea Level Rise in the Province of South Kalimantan, Indonesia – Akhmad R Saidy & Yusuf Aziz.
Objectives:
Overall objective is to assess the economics of adaptation in agriculture sector to sea-level rise in the Province of South Kalimantan.
Specific Objectives
- determine the level of awareness of farmers about SLR and its effect on their agricultural activities;
- project and value agricultural loss caused by the SLR of 1m if there is no adaptation effort done;
- provide estimates of cost and benefit for protection of agricultural areas through farm-like establishment;
- provide estimates of cost and benefit for establishment of new agricultural areas (paddy field) in inland; and
- compare the two adaptation options and make recommendation based on the analyses.
Project #3
Economic Vulnerability and Possible Adaptations to Coastal Erosion in San Fernando City La Union, Philippines – Jaimie Kim Bayani & Moises A Dorado
Objectives:
Overall objective is to estimate the economic vulnerability of San Fernando City, La Union, particularly along San Fernando Bay areas, to coastal erosion or shoreline retreat, and identify and evaluate various adaptation options to address the hazard.
Specific objectives
- identify and delineate critical areas at risk to coastal erosion/shoreline retreat until 2100
- prepare an inventory and an estimate of the value of resources, properties, structures and economic activities at risk to coastal erosion;
- identify possible adaptation strategies to address coastal erosion; conduct cost-benefit analysis of the identified adaptation strategies; and
- evaluate the different adaptation strategies based on social, administrative and legal feasibility.
Project #4
Assessing the Effects of Information Provision on Decision-makers’ Behaviour in Adaptation to Sea-Level Rise in Coastal Areas of Zhejiang Province, China – Jin Jianjun
Objectives:
Overall objective is to investigate the effects of information on decision-makers’ actions and perceptions in adaptation to sea-level rise in coastal areas of Zhejiang Province, China.
Specific objectives
- investigate the perceptions of decision-makers in local government units towards sea-level rise;
- investigate how prepared are the local government units to handle sea-level and what adaptation strategies they have done in the past
- test the effects of information provision on decision-makers’ behaviour in adaptation to sea-level rise; and
- investigate the association between socio-economic factors and decision-makers’ perception on sea-level rise.
